Savate Knife
"Herensuge"
After years of designing this knife and searching for a Knife Maker. We found a Knife maker willing to invest time to the production of a fast and swift fighting knife. The blade is produced to the design of Professeur Buitron which was developed for the Guild back in 1998 inspired by Coach Gerrick West to produce a blade worth having.
The blades history takes us back several
years when Maitre Isidro Chapa explained to savateurs present at a seminar in
Laredo Texas 1997, about the
devastating effects of a blade known as the saca tripa, on how it was used and
how to defend yourself of it. That most likely when you realized and recognized
it, it was to late. Several designs
and cross references of the golden era of the saca tripa were looked over.
the old saca tripa blades that we have all had one thing in common the s-shaped
blade.
Many do not know that the
blades of the
old zipotero's were those of the Saca Tripa, razor as well as the
bowie long blades both here in the US and elsewhere. In fact many savateurs
actually never experience any other discipline other than Savate Boxing, as it is known in the US.
To this homage we designed the blade which we named the Herensuge, after the Mythical Sea Serpent/Dragon of Basque folklore. Which had iron fangs and swiftly killed sailors on decks of ships. Like all the techniques in Savate Danse De Rue, the Herensuge is next to the last learned fighting Movements in DDRS. It is the fighting movement which deals with two movements combined ex: Lamiak & Gaugako. For those in the system its is easily acknowledged. Many have questioned on why the blade is not named after the Saca Tripa, and here is the reason: The Saca Tripa is a folder and has its blade on the inside of the folding side, as well as it is a type of knife which already exists and this is a new blade designed in 1998.
While studying several Spanish, Mexican knives as well as the Bowie Knife, they came to a conclusion that the belly needed to be that of the Blades of Andalusia . So the belly of the blade was done, next was that the knife had to be gripped on a various hand positions. As well as having the S-shaped blade of the Saca Tripa, this design will produce a torque that needs to be felt. It needed to be quick like a razor but yet legal to carry, so you will see the tang and blade shape in a S-pattern . Above all the blade has to be legal in the state of Texas where the majority of the Danse de Rue Savateurs reside.
This blade is fast and to the point it has a tight grip that enables it to contoured to your hand. this knife has a fixed blade which make for a rapid deployment of under tenths of a second. the can be held both in an extension grip, reverse grip or between the fingers like a razor or push dagger.
The Knife Maker is S.W.A.T Trainer Sergeant J. Jalomo Jr. from the Laredo Police Department. The Knife is custom made and will be numbered . There will be three types made of different grades, however they are all razor sharp and ready for action:
