2008
Windy City Savate Seminar

This
in Chicago we had great energy from those who attended. I covered the Blue Glove
Curriculum. The enjoyment that I received was great from those who went , I saw
flickers of questions being answered which placed a smile on my face.
I enjoyed the friendship that has
developed and bonded furthermore during the seminar. I expect to see a
representative during the passage going for his first rank.
All the time that I spent teaching this
past weekend ended with a clear notion that DDRS is growing in a positive
manner. Which is now separating form practitioners who hope and dream without
actually trying or attempting to train.
Thank you all,
Prof. Popeye

THE 5TH ANNUAL CHICAGO SEMINAR
By Initiateur Padraic “Jilgeuro” Gavin
During the weekend of May 31st & June 1st, the Illinois Savate Salle played host
to its 5th Annual Seminar of Savate Danse de Rue. Professor Paul Buitron
presented a 2-day intensive series of clinics focusing on the DDRS Blue Glove
curriculum.
Participants were treated to a variety of interpretations of the Blue Glove sets
of `Painful Idea', `Ram's Salute', and `Gorging Bull.' Professor Buitron
demonstrated how to “continue the conversation” after the initial counter and
disable the attacker with Lamiak, Gaugako, and Sugaar manipulations and
takedowns.
We spent a good deal of time discussing and practicing `Hand Form # 1.' The
form, which consists of (16) separate movements contains about twelve different
entries. Each entry consists of a stoppage or nullification of an attack with a
follow up technique. Applications of each entry of the form were meticulously
explained, and the group got to practice each and every one.
The group, although small, was exceptionally dedicated and certainly raised
their game to a higher level of performance with this kind of practice. As host,
I was very proud of my student attendees. They have been working hard over the
last year. How they moved and were able to follow along is testament to that
dedication. Well done, people!!
Next year, the Illinois Savate Salle is trying to make Chicago the host city for
the 2009 Guild's Instructors' Conference. We are considering the last weekend in
May or the first weekend in June. I will try my best to keep everyone
(especially our southwestern U.S. affiliates) from contracting hypothermia in
the dead of winter. Start planning your travel now. Contact me for details on
how to keep costs down on your trip.
