2007 Windy City Savate Seminar

This year's Chicago seminar covered a great deal of ground for our new members as well as our instructors. Major topics included:

The entire 16 Count set of hand entries and applications:
Embaketa Haize with applications
The complete catalogue of canne d'arme & canne de combat strikes
La Larga: defenses & counters with the big bowie knife

The 3 Attitudes of attack/defense: embaketa (slice), gilditu (stop), ledradura (slip)
The 3 takedown manipulations: lamiak, gaugako, sugaar

The complete catalogue of Danse de Rue Savate kicks
Lutte: anti-grappling & takedown counters to strikes, kicks, and shoot attempts

Like I said, a LOT of ground! Some of us are sore this week from having our rear ends tossed to the deck more often than the “cleaner's” mop. One thing guys, I plan to wear a hockey glove when feeding Larga strikes from now forth. It's a bitch to get old aint' it?

I cannot recommend enough to work constantly on developing your basic fundamentals. As a boxing coach, I always told my fighters: “All boxing is basic boxing.” And it is true.

As you progress in DDRS, you do not necessarily learn “new” information, but what you do learn is how to apply what you already know in new and better ways. But the only way to make that happen is to master your basics: Blue/Green/Red level material. People who do this are the ones who are able to pull this stuff off. It all comes back to your grasp of pugilism (boxing) you learn during the first three grades. This understanding is key. Keep training & stay safe.
