Impaling Matador

Coach Mecanico

One of the most basic sets for me personally and easiest to use in a street situation is impaling matador.  First of all, I should describe impaling matador.  As an attacker charges, you would simply place your hands behind the neck of the the attacker and “gently” guide him into your own knee while going into the kneeling position, then in one smooth motion come back to your feet while delivering a genoue with the other knee to the neck area of the attacker.

As I mentioned, this was one of the easiest and most natural flowing sets for me personally to pick up.  Don’t know why, it just was.  I believe it is one of the easiest to use in a street situation for a couple of reasons.  First you have the raging out of control guys that just charge forward in a fight and they have no balance or technique and assuming they are throwing punches, more than likely they are going to be very wild, wide, and out of control.  Even if these guys get to your space, it’s very easy to grab them behind the back of the neck and pull them down onto your knee (especially if you throw in a little coupe de tete before or as you gain control of the back of the neck).  Second, you now have all these “wrestlers” and “mma” guys that are still fighting under rules (yes, mma is full of rules just like boxing, don’t let them fool you) and they don’t understand  the “rules” of the street.  In some cases, these guys could be easier to take advantage of than the raging, charging lunatic.

Important to remember that these sets are entries.  Even after completing the impaling matador successfully, the attacker still might want to get up and want more…..so be prepared to give him more.  Use your training and don’t stop.  Keep going without hesitation until it’s safe to stop….and just remember, it’s a fight, so be prepared to be hit yourself.
