2007 Passage De Grade

Just wanted to express my gratitude to the Buitron Family and everyone who made the 2007 Passage de Grade a success. Sixteen rounds of sparring with all of you was quite an experience. It came close to my previous record of 17 straight rounds of boxing (but I was a much younger and virile bloke back then).

As Toby Keith says: “I'm not as good as I once was….but I'm as good once as I ever was.” You all proved one thing: In any kind of fight you cannot allow yourself to stand around waiting to be hit. Your opponent will most certainly oblige you. Sylvia “Mongoose” Martinez and Kendall “Mechanico” Martin drove that point home with a vengeance. Well done, guys, you know how to bring your “A-Game” to a fight. That is what our training is all about: aggressive self-defense. You do not have time to defend an attack. You defend by attacking his preparation before he can get set to attack you. This is what is meant by “entering the ambush” and being “on point all the time.” Keep an opponent on the fast defensive. He will be less effective if defending if he is getting BOMBED as opposed to just getting love-tapped. So keep up the good work in bringing your fight to his doorstep. Train hard & begin with your ends in mind.

The 2007 Savate season has come to a close - and what a season it's been. This year we saw a lot of growth and it's just the beginning. We had seminars from southern California, to Chicago Illinois, and back to the motherland of Savate, Nice, France. We have the first of the series of books that are being published for each of the glove ranks and the others will be following shortly. I want to personally thank everyone that helped to make this season as successful as it was.

The Passage de Grade this year had a wide range of glove ranks testing and we saw a great new group of blue gloves join the family. The work was hard and focused. We did a lot of work with the weapons in the system and on the specialized footwork for different techniques - material Coach Wall and I had been eagerly looking forward to.

At the IGDDRS board meeting we set the agenda for the upcoming season and agreed upon the next steps need to continue the growth of the Guild. The good news, we're starting to see a momentum moving forward that is a result of the work from the last three seasons combined. Next year the Passage de Grade looks to be exciting with the expectation that several of our French members will be joining us. I look forward to it.
